Almenna Consulting also assists with environmental planning assessments. Projects of this kind require multi-disciplinary expertise in areas such as biology, geology, hydrology, geography, land-use and traffic planning.

Assistance for building authorities

Almenna Consulting staff have provided assistance to county building authorities for many years. Outside assistance can be a useful option during periods of extensive development or temporary absences of county building officers. Almenna Consulting personnel have assisted the building authorities in Garðabær, Reykjavík, Hafnarfjörður and Mosfellsbær with the examination of scale drawings and surveys, as well as other functions performed by the building authorities.   For particularly large projects, some counties have appointed a special building officer to handle all of that official's functions connected to the project in question. An Almenna Consulting staff member acted as special building officer for Hvalfjörður County during the construction of the Norðurál aluminium smelter at Gundartangi from 1997-2009. The same arrangement was employed during construction of the Fjarðaál plant at Reyðarfjörður from 2004-2009.
